Health Fairs
As a part of Mended Hearts Chapter 127's public outreach and education program, volunteer members participate in local and regional health fairs at county health departments, schools, fairs, and special events by establishing display booths and by providing information and educational materials concerning the mission of Mended Hearts, Inc., and the resources and services available.
Health fairs provide excellent informal opportunities for the general public to discuss specific cardiac concerns with volunteers within your own community who have likely been through similar cardiac events. This health fair at York Institute in Jamestown, Tn. In October 2010 gave chapter members an opportunity to discuss heart health and fitness on a one-on-one basis and distribute educational pamphlets to over 700 high school students.

Chapter 127 President, Tom Little (L), Lorna Wingfield, Lucile Little, and Carl Cude stand ready at the Mended Hearts Chapter 127 health fair display and information booth at York Institute in Jamestown. The emphasis was on the short as well as long-term impact of smoking on heart health.
Mended Hearts Chapter 127 member, Lorna Wingfield, experiences the satisfaction of helping others in working her first health fair. During the nearly 5-hour event, Lorna quickly became adept at talking one-on-one with students about the harmful effects of smoking.
Tom and Lucile Little provide informational handouts to students at Health Fair in Jamestown, Tn. At York Institute (High School). Tom, Chapter 127 President, is a former smoker and heart patient himself. He can easily discuss with students the harmful effects of smoking with the same "been there, done that" perspective that he uses in visiting heart patients at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
